Bitcoin in Beer Sheva: the Negev’s only crypto ATM is on Rager

Between Ashdod and Eilat there is exactly one crypto ATM, and it sits on Yitzhak Rager Boulevard. What it offers, how it compares on cost with buying online, and why Beer Sheva has a student blockchain scene of its own.

Bitcoin ATM in Beer Sheva: Yitzhak Rager Blvd 53

Beer Sheva has something almost no other southern city has: a genuine bitcoin ATM. It is in the Bitcoin Change branch at Yitzhak Rager Blvd 53, the main artery running past Ben-Gurion University and Soroka Medical Center. OpenStreetMap tags the spot as a crypto ATM (amenity=atm), a tag last checked in April 2024. Only three points in the whole country carry that tag, in Ramat Gan, Ein Shemer and Beer Sheva, and this is the only one in the south.

It isn’t a brand-new presence, either. Back in July 2024 a Walla report estimated that Israel had roughly 14 crypto ATMs and named Beer Sheva alongside Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem and Netanya as the cities where they were concentrated. Today the only network running in the country, Bitcoin Change, has 11 branches, and Beer Sheva remains its only southern point that takes walk-ins. So if you want to buy crypto in Beer Sheva with cash, this is where you end up.

Hours and phone come from the operator’s own site, which describes the location as a staffed branch with a two-way machine. In practice you walk in, identify yourself to the staff and complete the trade on the machine.

Note the hours: until 20:00 Sunday to Thursday and until 15:00 on Friday. That Friday window is among the longest in the network, where most branches close at 14:00 or even 13:00. Like every branch, it’s shut on Shabbat. The desk is wheelchair-accessible and the number is 08-8506955. If you are driving in from Yeruham or Mitzpe Ramon, call first to make sure the machine is running.

What to bring: on your first visit, two valid ID documents, for example an Israeli ID card plus a passport or driving licence, and you fill in a short know-your-customer questionnaire. You also need a wallet on your phone. You can buy BTC, ETH, BCH and USDT for Israeli shekel cash only, and sell back. On selling USDT for cash, the operator’s homepage and its FAQ contradict each other, so ask at the counter.

What buying bitcoin in Beer Sheva costs

The desk charges 7% each way on top of the Kraken rate. The operator raised it from 6% in 2026, and older map listings may still show the previous figure. To see what that means, we compared a ₪5,000 purchase, an amount that also sits below the ₪6,000 legal cap on a cash deal with a business:

Estimated fee on a ₪5,000 purchase
Bitcoin Change, Rager 53 (7%)₪350
Bit2C instant buy (5%)₪250
Bits of Gold, bank transfer (1.95% + VAT)₪115
Bit2C order book (1.25%)₪63

Our calculation from operator price lists, 5 October 2026. Bits of Gold includes 18% VAT. Excludes withdrawal fees, spreads and any bank FX charge.

The numbers show the Rager desk costs roughly three times as much as a bank transfer to Bits of Gold, and five times or more the Bit2C order book. What does the difference buy you? A face-to-face trade, no waiting for a transfer and no bank questions at the buying stage. What it doesn’t buy is anonymity, because the ID checks are full. One more point: Bitcoin Change works under a CMISA “continuation of activity” permit (no. 57960) and says a full licence application is in progress, while Bits of Gold (56716) and Bit2C (72080) hold permanent licences.

Ben-Gurion University, its blockchain lab and BlockchainB7

Beer Sheva is more than a dot on the cash map. Ben-Gurion University of the Negev hosts a Blockchain & Digital Finance Lab led by Dr Nir Chemaya of the Department of Economics, researching blockchain economics, DeFi and digital assets. Alongside the academic side there is BlockchainB7, a community of students and enthusiasts.

In Beer Sheva, younger buyers mostly come to crypto through their phones rather than the counter.

BlockchainB7’s opening-of-year conference took place on Wednesday 26 November 2025 in Building 98 on campus, produced by Yazamut360 with free entry. Speakers included Nir Hirshman, CEO of the Crypto Companies Forum, Ben Samocha of CryptoJungle and Avishay Ovadia of Collider Ventures. We don’t know whether a similar event is planned this academic year, but the community exists, and that is a real difference between Beer Sheva and other southern cities.

Our take

For a BGU student with a Max card and a bank account, the Rager desk is a good place to see how crypto works, not a place to buy every month. Regular buyers pay less with a standing order or a bank transfer to a licensed platform.

And remember: 25% capital gains tax applies to coin-to-coin swaps, not only to cashing out into shekels.

The Gav-Yam Negev advanced technologies park next to the university, with the cyber cluster growing around it, also means plenty of tech workers in town. If part of your pay comes in tokens or in shares of a foreign company, read our crypto tax Israel guide.

The rest of the Negev: Dimona, Ofakim, Rahat and Eilat

The Rager desk serves a vast area. Beer Sheva is the service centre for the whole Negev, including Bedouin towns such as Rahat and Tel Sheva, and none of them has a crypto point. Nor do Dimona, Ofakim or Kiryat Gat. The next branches north are Rishon LeZion and Jerusalem, both about 70 km in a straight line, and Eilat is around 190 km away and works by appointment only.

In practice, if you live in Dimona or Ofakim, the drive to Rager is your only cash option. In Ashkelon or Ashdod, Rishon LeZion is closer, as we explain on the Ashkelon page. Planning a trip further south? The appointment-only desk is covered on our Eilat page.

Who buys crypto in Beer Sheva, and what to watch for

Beer Sheva is a city of students, Soroka medical staff, cyber workers and a large Russian-speaking community. We found no data on the crypto habits of any of these groups, so we won’t claim that Russian speakers prefer USDT or that Rahat residents buy with cash. What we did find is a 2024 Walla report saying that foreign workers are heavy users of crypto ATMs across Israel, sending money home.

Selling? For smaller sums the Rager machine pays cash. For larger ones, a withdrawal to your bank via a licensed platform costs less and leaves the paper trail your bank will want, particularly above about ₪100,000 a year. The details are in selling crypto in Israel, and every machine in the country is on our bitcoin ATM Israel page.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the bitcoin ATM in Beer Sheva?

At Yitzhak Rager Blvd 53, in a Bitcoin Change branch. OpenStreetMap tags it as a crypto ATM, one of only three in Israel and the only one in the south, and the operator describes it as a staffed branch with a two-way machine. Hours are Sunday–Thursday 10:00–20:00 and Friday 09:00–15:00, closed on Shabbat. Phone 08-8506955. Wheelchair-accessible.

How much does it cost to buy bitcoin in Beer Sheva?

At the Rager Blvd desk the fee is 7% each way, as across the network, so a ₪5,000 purchase costs about ₪350. Online is cheaper: Bits of Gold starts at 1.95% plus VAT, and Bit2C’s order book costs 1.25% down to 0.05%. The desk’s premium pays for face-to-face service and a deal with no bank transfer.

I study at Ben-Gurion University. What is the simplest way to start?

If you have an Israeli bank account, a bank transfer to a licensed platform is cheapest; the Bits of Gold minimum is ₪750. To start small and fast, a card works. If you would rather see everything in person, the Rager desk sells from ₪20 with two IDs. Either way, only put in money you can afford to lose.

Is there a bitcoin ATM in Dimona, Ofakim or Rahat?

No. As of October 2026 there is no crypto point in Dimona, Ofakim, Rahat or Kiryat Gat, nor in Ashdod or Ashkelon. The whole Negev has only the Rager Blvd 53 desk in Beer Sheva, plus an appointment-only desk in Eilat. The next branches north are Rishon LeZion and Jerusalem, about 70 km away.

Can I sell crypto for cash in Beer Sheva?

Yes, at Rager Blvd 53. The machine is two-way and pays out shekel cash in multiples of ₪100, at 7%. Operator limits are ₪10,000 a day, ₪20,000 a week and ₪30,000 a month, and the cash law caps cash deals with a business at ₪6,000. For larger sales, withdrawing to your bank through a licensed platform is the usual route.
